Former India and Mumbai cricket team fast bowler Salil Ankola has provided an encouraging update about his health. Ankola, who had been dealing with clinical depression concerns, has finally recovered from it and is now ready to take on new challenges.
The former cricketer and former national selector was reportedly battling with a severe depression issue. To overcome the issue, he consulted with the professionals and experts and went for rehab.
Salil Ankola is all set to resume works
During the rehabilitation period, the 58-year-old had to stop doing any professional activities as his focus was only on his mental health. During an interview with the Times of India, Salil states that his wife, Ria, helped him a lot during the challenging phase of his life.
“I'd love to resume work again. I'm really open to any cricketing assignment, coaching, or anything related to the sport. I'm going out now. I've got a couple of meetings. I'm starting some coaching work here in Pune."
"I'll be discharged from the rehab centre in 10-15 days. I've been staying with Ria (his wife). It's good to be back in the game again. I'm feeling great now,” Salil Ankola said in the interview.
He now has improved health along with an improved mindset
He further claims that because of the rehab sessions, he feels more fit both mentally and physically. Because of doing regular workouts and gym sessions, he lost about 10 kgs as well.
“I've become much fitter now- I've lost about 10 kgs, as I was working out in a good gym there (in the rehab centre). I'm absolutely fighting fit. Most importantly, I am in a good frame of mind as well,” the former cricketer mentioned.
Ria Ankola, Salil’s wife, also informs that his husband is not in a much better stage and is expected to be discharged soon.
“Salil is doing much better. I met him yesterday in Pune. The doctors are very happy with his progress. He is fit to resume work now. They are saying that he will be discharged and be back home very soon. I must thank all his friends and well-wishers for being there for him and being so supportive and helping us throughout,” Ria informed about the development.
Salil Ankola's professional cricket career in brief
Salil Ankola has a pretty decent stint as a bowling all-rounder, mostly known for fast bowling, for the India National Cricket Team. He has represented India in only one Test match, which was against the arch-rival Pakistan in 1989, when Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis made their debuts for India and Pakistan, respectively.
Ankola claimed a brace in the match with the ball. His stats were much better in the ODIs. The all-rounder from Sholapur, Maharashtra, played 20 ODIs for India and picked up 13 wickets, including a best figure of 3/33.
He was crucial for the Mumbai cricket team in the 90s. In 54 first-class matches for Mumbai, Salil Ankola took 181 wickets, with best figures of 6-47. With the bat, he scored a half-century as well with the state cricket team.
