Reputed cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has targeted Indian selectors for not interacting with the press while announcing squads. Aakash Chopra also highlighted the point that selectors are now announcing squads at late night.
For instance, BCCI announced the squads for Asian Games 2023 on Friday night last week. Asian Games 2023, which does not come under ICC, will be played in China in September-October.
Aakash Chopra Targets Indian Selectors For Avoiding Press
While speaking in his YouTube video, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said he was quite surprised by Indian selectors announcing squads late at night. Chopra was also confused why this happens as the job can be done in the evening too.
“This is quite interesting and I don’t know the answer why it happens. Why the team is announced at 11 in the night? Selectors can meet in the morning, it can be done by the evening.
The former Indian opener also noted how selectors are avoiding interacting with the press while announcing squads. As a result, no one can question them over their selections.
“And there’s another formula that has been started. Selectors don’t interact with the press. You’ve announced the team and now nobody can question you the reason behind the selection or non-selection of players, what your thought process is,” Aakash Chopra further added.
Ajit Agarkar was recently picked as the chief selector of the Indian Cricket Team. The former Indian pacer was the man behind picking the Asian Games 2023 squad.
Meanwhile, since Asian Games 2023 clashes with ICC World Cup 2023, players part of Asian Games 2023 will not be part of the World Cup squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad is set to lead the Indian team in the tournament. The India squad comprises many youngsters who performed well in IPL 2023.
