IND vs WI: Ajit Agarkar Applies For India's Selector Post As Delhi Capitals All But Confirm The Development

Former India allrounder Ajit Agarkar has reportedly applied for a position on the national selection committee. While the player is yet to confirm anything on the matter, reports state that he could go on to become the next chairman of the selection panel.
The BCCI have not announced a chief selector since Chetan Sharma stepped down from his post in February this year in the wake of the sting operation scandal. Ideally, a selector from the North Zone should have replaced Sharma as the chief selector. But according to Cricbuzz, the BCCI constitution is not bound by any zonal compulsions when it comes to the appointment of the selection committee.

“All five selectors can be from the same zone,” an MCA official told the news outlet while also confirming that Ajit Agarkar is interested in taking the job.
Agarkar’s selection will mean two selectors from the West Zone in the selection committee. At present, Salil Ankola is a part of the selection committee and is representing the West. The report further added that with the BCCI lifting the age restriction, former India skipper and former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar is also a possible candidate.

In its recently-released advertisement for the position, the BCCI did not mention any age limit. Previously, there had been a stipulated age restriction of 60 years. According to the new advertisement, the condition is that the candidates should have played a minimum of seven Tests or 30 First-Class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class matches.
With the World Cup not very far away, the BCCI would be keen to appoint the chief selector as soon as possible. At present, Shiv Sundar Das (East), S Sharath (South) and Subroto Banerjee (Central) and Ankola (West) are the current selectors.
Delhi Capitals all but confirm Ajit Agarkar’s interest:
The reports have coincided with Delhi Capitals announcing that they would not renew Ajit Agarkar’s contract. The former cricketer served as the IPL franchise’s assistant coach in the last two seasons of the competition. Along with Agarkar, Delhi Capitals have also parted ways with former Australia allrounder Shane Watson who also served as the team’s assistant coach in IPL 2023.
Agarkar parting ways with Delhi Capitals pretty much confirm his interest in taking the job of Team India’s chief selector. The timing of the decision all but confirms his development.
You’ll always have a place to call home here ?
Thank You, Ajit and Watto, for your contributions. All the very best for your future endeavours ?#YehHaiNayiDilli pic.twitter.com/n25thJeB5B
