West Indies all-rounder Akeal Hosein has been a very important cog in the T20I squad in his national side. He contributes consistently with both bat and ball, making him one of the regulars in this format.
Hosein took two for 29 and then scored 16 off 10 balls in the second T20I to take his team to victory. The left-arm spinner dismissed Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson and derailed India’s innings in the process. Ultimately his contribution turned out to be a match-winning one.
Post the second T20I, Hosein’s 10-year-old tweet on Ravindra Jadeja went viral. In 2013, when Jadeja was starting to get regular chances with the Indian cricket team, Hosein had just made his first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago.

“One day… I’d like to become a player like him…,” tweeted Hosein tagging Ravindra Jadeja on October 16, 2013. 10 years down the line and after Hosein’s match-winning contribution in the second T20I, his tweet went viral when cricket fans started liking and commenting on the tweet.
The all-rounder remained unbeaten on 16 off 10 balls. His celebration after hitting the winning runs said it all. The 30-year-old blocked his ears with his fingers and soaked in the moment.
Hosein started getting a lot of comments and good wishes once the tweet went viral after his knock with the bat. This was not the first time, however, that the West Indian all-rounder performed with both bat and ball. Against England, in a T20I in 2022, Hosein hit three back-to-back sixes and two four with West Indies needing 30 off six balls to win the match. West Indies fell short by 1 run and unfortunately lost the game but Hosein’s all-round skills were noticed in that particular game.
