IND vs WI: BCCI Confirm Debut For Yashasvi Jaiswal And Ruturaj Gaikwad Ahead Of First Test Against West Indies

The upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies is a special one for both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both the top-order batsman have earned their maiden callups from the Test team for the series.

Both the batsmen have earned the call-up after impressing in IPL 2023. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal enjoyed productive seasons with the bat for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively. While Jaiswal was the fifth highest run-scorer of the season, Ruturaj finished at the seventh spot.

Jaiswal finished the season by scoring 625 runs from 14 games at an an average of 48 and a strike-rate of over 163. He also scored one century and five fifties that included the fastest-ever IPL fifty. Ruturaj, on the other hand, played a key role in Chennai Super Kings winning IPL 2023. The opening batsman scored 590 runs in 16 matches for the Chennai-based outfit.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal to make debut:

While only time will tell whether Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal make their Test debut or not in the upcoming series, the BCCI has confirmed a different type of debut for the duo. BCCI’s Twitter handle, on Monday (July 10), confirmed that Ruturaj and Gaikwad will be making their debut on BCCI podcast. It will also be the first episode of the much-awaited podcast.

In a video posted by BCCI, Ruturaj could be seen telling his India teammate: “We are new, so is this view and there is something else that is new.” When Jaiswal asked about it, Ruturaj told him: “BCCI podcast is coming. Let’s do it. We will be in the first episode. What do you say?”

“Let’s rock,” he added.
