Bhuvneshwar Kumar has completely fallen down the pecking order in the Indian team across all three formats. Not very long ago, the right-arm pacer was an integral part of India’s limited-overs teams but things have completely changed in the last few months.
He has not played for Team India since the T20I series against New Zealand in November last year. His last Test appearance for India came way back in 2018 while has not played a One-Day International since January last year.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar could not find a spot in the Indian team for the home ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the start of the year. He was also ignored by the selectors for the three-match ODI series against Australia just before the Indian Premier League season (IPL).
End of road for Bhuvneshwar Kumar?:
In IPL 2023, he played in all 14 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad and picked up 16 wickets. He, however, could not earn a recall from the selectors for the ongoing tour of the West Indies where India are scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also failed to make the cut for the Asian Games.
The selectors have made it clear that they will try out new bowlers as the likes of Mukesh Kumar and Umran Malik made it to the squad for the West Indies tour. And amidst all these, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has triggered speculations surrounding his future in international cricket with his recent activity on Instagram.

The 33-year-old made an interesting change to his Instagram bio, making many fans speculate about his career. A few eagle-eyed fans noticed that the pacer has removed the word ‘cricketer’ from his bio and shared the photos of his old and new bio on social media. Earlier going by ‘Indian cricketer’, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s current profile reads only ‘Indian’.
