IND vs WI: "I Think It Is Something To Do With Domestic Cricket" - Harbhajan Singh On India's Spin Bowling Option After Ravichandran Ashwin And Ravindra Jadeja

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh talked about spin-bowling options of the Indian Cricket Team once Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja called time on their career. He said that BCCI needs to push spinners to play Ranji Trophy so that they learn the art of bowling longer spells. 

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been carrying the load of the Indian spin bowling in the Tests for the last one decade. The duo single-handedly has won many games for the team and it’s fair to say that they are the backbone of the Indian Cricket Team in the longest format of the game.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are one of the main reasons that the Indian team is a dominant force in the longest format of the game. The duo share more than 700 wickets in the Test and have rattled the batting order of opposition within a short span of time.

But it’s fair to say that they both are in the final stage of their career and the biggest question currently stands is who will take the baton after they will retire. There aren’t any names that have emerged and it’ll be the biggest challenge for BCCI and team management going ahead.

Harbhajan Singh said that he wants to see more of Axar Patel as he’s one player going forward. He also pointed out how team management after showing confidence in Kuldeep Yadav sidelined him.

“I think it is something to do with domestic cricket. You talk about Jayant, whatever little Test cricket he played, he has bowled well and is very good with the bat and you have to show faith in them. I want to see Axar Patel more and more as he is the one going forward. He is going to replace Jadeja. But Axar is also not too young compared to Jadeja,” Speaking to PTI, he said.

Kuldeep was another spinner, when he took those five wickets in Australia, we heard that he will be the guy who will be playing abroad (in SENA) for India, but, after that, he never played abroad. I dont know what happened after that. Maybe he took five wickets and he paid the price for taking those wickets,” he added.

IND vs WI: “We need to make spinners want to play Test cricket” – Harbhajan Singh 

Harbhajan Singh further highlighted that management needs to show trust in the spinners and push them to play Ranji Trophy.

“I am not saying we don’t have spinners but, somehow, we need to make them want to play Test cricket. Like Yuzvendra Chahal, who is a top spinner and plays in T20 formats, but then, I get surprised that he doesn’t feature in Asia Cup or World Cup. 

“You have to make those spinners believe that you are good enough to play Test cricket. You have to push them to play Ranji Trophy so that they learn the art of bowling longer spells,” he concluded. 

Currently, Ravichandran Ashwin along with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are the three spinners in the team. Kuldeep Yadav has done exceptionally well in the limited opportunities but he has been unfortunate as he hasn’t got enough chances.
