The three-match ODI series between Team India and West Indies will begin on Thursday (July 27) in Barbados. The visitors will have the momentum with them after their clinical display in the recently-concluded two-match Test series against the hosts.
India thoroughly dominated the Tests and won by 1-0. The Rohit Sharma-led side thrashed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the series opener after bowling them out for just 150 and 130. India were on course to win the second Test too but with rain playing spoilsport, the match ended in a draw. Before the rain, India had reduced West Indies to 76 for 2 in the second innings after taking a 183-run lead in the first innings.
With form and momentum on India’s side, the tourists will be looking to make the most of it and start the ODI series with a win. At the same time, India should also guard against complacency. West Indies might not be at their best right now but they do have the potential to beat any team on their day.
Anjum Chopra picks her India XI:
As Team India gears up for the first ODI against West Indies, former India captain Anjum Chopra has revealed her preferred eleven for the series opener. In a video posted on her YouTube channel, Chopra began by naming Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav as the top four of the side.
She snubbed the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan as she named Sanju Samson as her preferred wicketkeeper of the team. For the allrounders’ slots, Chopra picked Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja while snubbing Axar Patel.
There was also no place for Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat in the team as she named Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj. One between Unadkat and Thakur, however, is looking set to play the game as Siraj has been rested for the ODI series.
Anjum Chopra’s playing XI for the first ODI:
Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mukesh Kumar/Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Mohammed Siraj.
