India wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan was agonisingly close to giving the cricketing world another ‘Alex Carey’ moment with his action during the recently-concluded first IND vs WI Test in Dominica.
India thrashed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs to take an unassailable lead in the two-match series. The win has also helped Team India start their campaign in the third World Test Championship cycle with a dominating win. Playing their first game since losing the WTC final last month, India thoroughly dominated the match against West Indies.

The Rohit Sharma-led side bowled out West Indies for a paltry total of 150 runs in the first innings before scoring 421 for 5 (declared). While Ravichandran Ashwin picked up five wickets, debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma scored centuries in the first innings. In the second innings, Ashwin showed his class again by taking seven wickets as India bowled out West Indies for 130 to win the game inside three days.
Ishan Kishan’s Alex Carey moment:
While the first Test between India and West Indies did not witness any big controversy, Ishan Kishan was very close to creating one. The debutant cheekily tried to stump Jason Holder but his hopes were dashed by the umpire. The incident took place at the end of the 33rd over when Ravindra Jadeja was bowling to Jason Holder.

After Holder failed to make contact with the ball and Ishan Kishan collected it behind the stumps, the latter patiently waited for the former to raise his back leg. And as soon as Holder took his foot off the ground, Ishan Kishan took the bails off before appealing for a stumping. However, the umpire denied him his first-ever stumping in Tests as he had already called it over and hence the ball was dead.

@ICC Ishan Kishan needs to be banned for at least a game for violation of fair play. How do you appeal for stumping once umpire calls ‘over’?

Did Ishan Kishan attempt a delayed stumping? Is it fair? The umpire had already called ‘over’ ?#WIvIND pic.twitter.com/NYhJd4EXAz

Talking about the incident involving Alex Carey, the Australia wicketkeeper faced heavy criticism after he stumped Jonny Bairstow in a contentious manner during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. After Bairstow walked out of the crease seemingly believing that the ball was dead, Carey threw the ball at the stumps and Australia appealed for a stumping. The umpire eventually gave his decision in Australia’s favour.
