Former India batsman, Wasim Jaffer wanted the 21-year-old youngster, Yashasvi Jaiswal to be included in the squad ahead of the third T20I match against West Indies on Tuesday (August 08) at 8 PM IST.

The pressure is on the visitors since they have already lost the first two games of the five-game T20I series against the Caribbeans.

Wasim Jaffer desired to see Ishan Kishan compromise his spot to make space for Yashasvi Jaiswal who had a tremendous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season with the Rajasthan-based franchise.

Jaffer feels that Yashasvi Jaiswal is now at his best level and booming with confidence and should get a chance in the upcoming 20-over match against West Indies.

The former batsman further added that Yashasvi Jaiswal can bring ‘fearlessness’ in the squad and since the 21-year-old can play spin and fast bowlers well, he should get a chance to make his debut like Tilak Varma was given a chance in the first T20I match.

“I would pick Yashasvi Jaiswal without a doubt just because he brings that fearlessness. He plays spin well and his batting against fast bowling is exemplary. He’s right at the peak of his game, high on confidence, so why not throw him in the mix and see what you get? He’s got runs in Tests and he’s looking for an opportunity. You might get a breath of fresh air like you did with Tilak Varma, so why not?” Wasim Jaffer said on Yashasvi Jaiswal while speaking to ESPNCricinfo.

Why Yashasvi Jaiswal should make his T20I debut vs West Indies

The 21-year-old, Yashasvi Jaiswal had a scintillating season in the 16th edition of the IPL for Rajasthan Royals (RR). Jaiswal played 14 league matches in IPL 2023 and scored a massive 625 runs with a strike rate of 163.61.

The youngster hammered five half-centuries and one century for his franchise. His best score was 124 runs against Mumbai Indians.

When Jaiswal starts hitting he doesn’t see who is delivering and as Wasim Jaffer said, he brings that fearlessness in the squad.

India are coming into this match after losing against West Indies in the 2nd T20I match by two wickets. The visitors gave a target of 153 runs after batting first. However, the Indian-bowling attack failed to defend the target.
