India lost the first T20I in Trinidad by four runs. Arshdeep Singh tried his best with both bat and ball to help his team get across the line but unfortunately could not. He took 2 for 31 with the ball and scored 12 off 7 in the final two overs.

India needed 10 runs to win off the final over and they fell short by four runs in the end. Hardik Pandya (19) and Sanju Samson (12) both falling in the 16th over proved to be the turning point for India. India needed 37 off 29 balls when Hardik was dismissed.

Arshdeep Singh speaking to the reporters after the match admitted that India needed one of their batters to bat through especially with West Indies having just four fielders on the boundary in the last two overs. He felt that a set batter could have won the game for India.

We Will Review The Match: Arshdeep Singh

“I guess we needed one batter to stay till the end because in their last two over, five fielders were inside the 30 yard circle,” he told the reporters.

“We will review the match. What we could have done better in the first innings. Where we could we have kept things tight and as a batting unit in the second innings where did we missed the finishing part,” said Arshdeep added further.

The Southpaw hit two four in the 19th over to bring India back into the game. He backed himself to score the needful 10 runs in the final over but could not get much of the strike.

“Any player who is in that kind of situation do believe that he can win the match for the team. When you plays for your country, you always get that extra push,” he said.

He further spoke about India’s long tail brushing the concerns aside, saying that these questions come up when you end up losing a game.

“Not really. These kind of things always comes after the end of the match. The playing XI we fielded, we’re confident that we will win the match. We always back our playing XI be it has six bowlers or nine. It doesn’t matter at all,” explained the Indian pacer.

Guyana will host the next two T20Is on (August 6, 8) followed by the last two T20Is at Lauderhill in Florida (August 12, 13) to round off the tour.
