Star India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that there was no grass on the pitch and old nets on the practice ground in West Indies. India are currently on a tour of the West Indies, where they have played two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is.

While speaking on his official YouTube channel, the spinner said that West Indies should start improving their infrastructure or else it will be tough for the Caribbean cricket board to produce talented players.

“I feel that if cricket should improve in a country, the primary improvement should start from the infrastructure. Even the U10, U12, and U14 kids from their country should get a decent net and ground. They should get the accessibility to play their matches,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

Ashwin said that infrastructure is the key for bring new players into the hardworking sport and added that there is a lack of framework in Caribbean cricket.

“This is a talent-driven sport and a hardworking sport. So, if a kid works hard, he or she will definitely get better. The infrastructure is really important. “When it comes to West Indies, see, they are actually coming from different countries/islands like Antigua, Barbados, and they all represent West Indies together. So, if you ask me whether their infrastructure has developed well in all those islands? Actually, no,” Ashwin said.

While talking about his experience during the Test series, Ravichandran Ashwin said that he is not blaming the West Indies Cricket Board but there was no grass on the practice pitch.

“We played at the Barbados Test Center. While we practiced in the nets, there was no grass left on the surface. Their nets looked too old. I am not saying these things to blame them or anything. I actually feel really bad for them,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

Hardik Pandya-led India will square off against West Indies in the third T20I match on Tuesday (August 08) at Providence Stadium, Guyana and the match will kick off at 8:00 PM IST.

India are coming into the decider match after losing the first 20-over matches following a poor performance from the Men in Blues. India need to win today’s match to still keep their chances to win the T20I series against West Indies.
