The all-rounder for Assam and the Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag, has frequently been under fire from fans, analysts, and commentators for his social media posts as well as for his lackluster performances and antics.

Parag, who has been relied upon by Rajasthan Royals for the middle-order position for the past five years, hasn’t exactly shone in the competition and had another quiet season, averaging just 13 in seven games.

A spot in the India A team for the Asia Cup for Emerging Teams in 2023 was secured for him, though, thanks to his home heroics for Assam in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The all-rounder for Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad Abhishek Sharma has been chosen as his deputy. Parag is one of the 15-member teams that is led by U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull.

“People pay their hard-earned money to come to watch us”- Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag had a message for retired cricketers and addressed haters in a sincere talk with Rajasthan Royals. Because they paid good money to watch the players, the fans have the right to criticize them when they don’t perform, but when experts and former cricketers do the same publicly, Parag added, it’s wrong and they should instead send him a message.

The Rajasthan Royals posted a video of a conversation that took place on June 22 in which Parag stated, “People pay their hard-earned money to come watch us perform, not play. So us not performing, them hating. I totally understand. But I think verified accounts, ex-cricketers, commentators when they are posting about this on social media and they’re taking out time to tweet about me. You can just text me. I would honestly love that”

“Because if anyone can just DM (direct message) me and say ‘Hey, I know this is how you play cricket. But if you do this, you may have a better chance of performing,” Riyan Parag further added.

“My Instagram is about my life”- Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag, an all-rounder for Assam and the Rajasthan Royals, also discussed his feelings about missing important matches against the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore while claiming that he kept staring in the mirror. The 21-year-old also discussed how his supporters anticipate seeing solely cricket-related posts on social media, but he actually utilizes it to showcase who he is as a person and his personal life.

“My Instagram is about my life. It’s not about my cricket. Sure, in the season if you were doing something, we are going to post about it. But it’s mostly about my life. And that’s gaming and golfing. So, I like to show that. People don’t understand it, but I’ve got no control over that,” Parag said.

Parag was recently chosen to India’s 15-man ‘A’ squad for the forthcoming ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023, where he hopes to prove his doubters wrong.
