Former India opener, Aakash Chopra spoke on Suryakumar Yadav’s crucial role for the Men in Blues in the ongoing India Vs West Indies T20I series. Chopra said that SKY needs to score more runs to keep India in a better position.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, the 45-year-old said Suryakumar Yadav loves the 20-over format and the batsman needs to flourish in the T20I series against West Indies.
“SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) at No. 3 – you shouldn’t read too much into one match. You shouldn’t nitpick too much. This is the format that he absolutely loves. He looks better if the ball comes onto the bat, which might happen in Guyana because it won’t be a used surface,” Aakash Chopra said.
Chopra also said that India’s batting order revolves around Suryakumar Yadav and the 32-year-old player needs to score more runs to help the Men in Blues.
“However, Suryakumar Yadav will have to score runs because, although Tilak Varma has made an amazing start, he is this team’s linchpin. India’s batting revolves around him in T20Is. So he needs to score runs,” Chopra added.
While talking about Sanju Samson, Aakash Chopra advised the Keralite to take advantage of the number 6 since he won’t get the chance to bat in the top order.
“Hardik Pandya was going at a run-a-ball, although he was just accelerating at the right time, and then he got out. Sanju Samson, unfortunately, he won’t get to bat higher than this number (No. 6). So take advantage of it whatever you can,” the 45-year-old concluded.
Suryakumar Yadav’s poor outing continued in the 1st T20I Vs West Indies
In the second inning, Suryakumar Yadav came at number 6 following which he scored 21 runs in 21 deliveries with a strike rate of 100.00. SKY managed to three boundaries during his time on the crease, two fours and one six. He was dismissed by Jason Holder in the 9.2 over.
Hardik Pandya-led Men in Blues lost the 1st T20I match by four runs after a sloppy start to the series. They will be looking forward to changing the momentum of the squad and getting back the winning spirit.
India will face West Indies in the second T20I match on Sunday (August 06) at 8:00 PM IST. The match will be played at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
