Indian batter Hanuma Vihari played his last Test match for India inJuly 2022 and is looking to make a comeback after being snubbed from the Indian Test squad against West Indies.

Hanuma Vihari is seeking inspiration from Ajinkya Rahane’s comeback into the Indian team. A good season with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 paved his comeback into the Indian Test team. He scored 89 and 46 in the WTC final to solidify his position for the West Indies Test series and was even named vice-captain of the Test team.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Vihari said that he wasn’t too sure why he was dropped from the Indian team, but he is looking to emulate Rahane. He further said that he is looking to give his best for his state and zonal team.

“I thought whenever I got a chance, I did my best. Maybe my best was not good enough for the Indian team. But again, I will try to keep getting better. That’s all you can do as a sportsman,” said Vihari.

“Hope is always there until you retire that you can come back. I’m still 29 and have a lot of time to go. I’ve seen Ajinkya Rahane make a comeback at 35. I still feel I can contribute to the Indian side in the Test format, especially if I can get some runs in the domestic season” he further added.

Everyone Branded Me As A Test Player: Hanuma Vihari

Hanuma Vihari further said that he considers the Test player tag unfair as people have branded him as a Test player having not seen him play in any other format for India.

“Everyone says ‘he’s a Test player’, they brand me as a Test player. I don’t think it’s fair. I have grown as a white-ball player as well, but many don’t believe that because they brand you as a certain player, only red-ball or white-ball,” Vihari further added.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Ajinkya Rahane as he is all set to play the first Test in Dominica. It will be interesting to see if he can replicate his WTC final form.
