Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that Ajit Agarkar made a few tough calls in his first assignment as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee. Aakash Chopra believes that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul might not be in the selectors’ plans for the T20 format.
Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not included in the T20I squad for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies. However, both batters were named in the Test and ODI squads. KL Rahul, on the other hand, is currently sidelined due to an injury and is undergoing recovery.

That’s A Call The Previous Selectors Have Taken – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra discussed India’s ongoing transition period in cricket and stressed the importance of clear communication with the players during this phase.
“Tough calls to be taken, honestly speaking. Why am I saying that? Rohit Sharma as a captain after 2023? Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul as T20 players, that’s a call the previous selectors have taken for sure but how do you go forward with that?” Chopra said.
“Then when do you start phasing out the seniors? Phase out perhaps is a wrong word but phasing out means that you want to start moving in a different direction. So how will you do that? When will you do that? What will be the communication?” he added.

He Is The One Who Can Take The Tough Calls – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator highlighted that Ajit Agarkar should make crucial decisions regarding senior players and the roadmap for the future of Indian cricket.
“I am expecting all that from Ajit. When Ajit was Mumbai’s selectors, something similar happened and that is why he probably had to resign in the end. He has got immense respect from his peers and he is the one who can take the tough calls,” he further stated.

“In my opinion, Indian cricket is at a stage where you will have to take quite a few tough calls in the next 12 months with regards to seniors – who, where, how and how much, how the roadmap ahead should be, how much do you invest in a particular youngster and the clarity of respecting first-class cricket,” he concluded.
Rohit, Virat, and Rahul played their T20I match during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The trio were not included in the squad for the fourth consecutive series. Hardik Panda was named captain, with Suryakumar Yadav serving as his deputy.
