Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer suggested one change in the playing XI of the Hardik Pandya-led team for the second T20I against the West Indies. Wasim Jaffer highlighted that young wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan had a poor record in the shortest format of the game.

The Men in Blue suffered a four-run loss in the first T20I and are 0-1 behind in the five-match series. Ishan Kishan, who impressed with three half-centuries in the recent ODI series, scored just six runs off nine balls before being dismissed by left-arm pacer Obed McCoy.

Ishan Kishan’s T20I Form Worries Me – Wasim Jaffer

In a conversation with ESPNCricinfo ahead of the second T20I, Wasim Jaffer said that Yashasvi Jaiswal should replace Ishan Kishan as an opener.

“I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

“In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season,” he added.

Jaiswal scored 625 runs at a strike rate of 163.61 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He recently made his Test debut and smashed 171 in his first game. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan has scored 206 runs in the last 15 T20Is with an average of 13.73 and a strike rate of 103.51.

Why Not Give An Opportunity To The Boy – Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer said that Yashasvi Jaiswal deserved to make his T20I debut following impressive performances in the last edition of the IPL.

“Why not give an opportunity to the boy who played very well in the IPL? He won the emerging player award and is confident. I’ll definitely look towards that change,” he further stated

“The first T20I was played on a difficult pitch, so expecting them [Kishan and Shubman Gill] to play in that fashion (free-flowing mode) is too much expectation. It’s crucial to see the pitch for the second T20I. If it’s good enough, then our batters will obviously play well,” he concluded.

The Hardik Pandya-led team will lock horns with the West Indies in the second T20I at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, August 6.
