Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer has picked three young batsmen who are likely to be the flagbearer of Indian cricket in the coming years.

Team India’s Test and T20Is teams are already in transition and the same should be expected for the ODI team too after this year’s ICC World Cup. The selectors recently dropped Cheteshwar Pujara while giving maiden call-ups to Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the Test team.

As far as the T20I team is concerned, the selectors have seemingly decided against including senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the team.

They have not played a single T20I for India since the conclusion of last year’s T20 World Cup and it looks highly unlikely that they would play again. Some senior players could be axed from the ODI team too after this year’s World Cup.

Wasim Jaffer on India’s future stars:

With the likes of Kohli and Rohit in the twilight phase of their careers, Wasim Jaffer has suggested three players who could replace the India greats. Speaking on JioCinema, Wasim Jaffer began by mentioning Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s names. While Gill has been playing international cricket for quite some time now, Jaiswal is new and has hit the ground running.

Earlier this month, he smashed 171 on his debut against West Indies before playing a fine knock of 57 runs in the ongoing second Test. The youngster is yet to make his debut in the white-ball formats for Team India. Speaking about Jaiswal, Wasim Jaffer said:

“One is Yashasvi Jaiswal. I see him as a three-format player. He has performed amazingly well in the IPL and has made an excellent start in Test cricket.”

“Shubman Gill is the second name I will take. If we talk only about batting, I see these two players as very strong contenders who will take Indian cricket forward after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” he added.

The third player picked by Wasim Jaffer was Sai Sudharsan who is grabbing the spotlight for his performances in recent times. He first shot to the limelight after impressing in the IPL and the Tamil Nadu Premier League and recently scored a stunning unbeaten century against Pakistan A in the ongoing Emerging Teams’ Asia Cup.

“Sai Sudharsan is a player who I have liked a lot, the way he has played in the IPL. After that, he has scored a century against Pakistan A in the emerging teams’ tournament that is going on. So I feel he can become a very good player in the future,” said Wasim Jaffer.
