Former India batsman, Wasim Jaffer wished to see Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 21-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) superstar replace Ishan Kishan in the 2nd T20I match against West Indies on Sunday (August 06) at Providence Stadium, Guyana. The match will kick off at 8:00 PM IST.
While speaking to Cricinfo, Jaffer expressed his desire to see Yashasvi Jaiswal play at Ishan Kishan’s place since the 25-year-old is having a disappointing run in the 20-over format. The former player also added that Kishan was in form in ODIs but the two formats are different from each other.
“I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season,” said Wasim Jaffer said.
Jaffer praised Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and said that he is confident. The former player also said that he looks forward to the change in the squad.
“Why not give an opportunity to the boy who played very well in the IPL? He won the emerging player award and is confident. I’ll definitely look towards that change,” Jaffer added while applauding Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had an IPL to remember in IPL 2023
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 21-year-old had a scintillating season for the Rajasthan-based franchise in the IPL 2023. Jaiswal appeared in 14 games and scored 625 runs with a strike rate of 163.61. Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered one century and five half-centuries in the last season but was unlucky to pull his team to the playoffs.
In IPL 2023, Jaiswal shattered many records with his extraordinary performance. He broke the 15-year-old record for the most runs by an uncapped player in a single season. The 21-year-old’s best score in the IPL 2023 was 124 against Mumbai Indians.
In the first T20I games, Hardik Pandya-led Men in Blues lost the match by four runs. In the first inning, the Caribbeans gave a target of 150 runs but the visitors failed to chase it in the second inning after no Indian batsmen could touch the 50-run mark.
