Yashasvi Jaiswal, on Thursday (July 13), announced his arrival in Test cricket in style. The highly-rated opening batsman scored a century on his debut in the ongoing first IND vs WI Test in Dominica.

Playing his first-ever international game, Yashasvi Jaiswal showed remarkable composure and maturity on a sluggish and slow pitch at Windsor Park. He and Rohit Sharma batted India to a position of strength by adding 229 runs for the first wicket.

After India bowled out West Indies for a paltry total of 150 runs in the first innings, Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal sent the hosts on a leather hunt. The duo added 80 runs on the first day before stumps and did not let West Indies claim any early breakthrough on day two either.

Both the players showed patience on the slow pitch and did not hesitate in punishing the odd loose balls. The partnership was broken when debutant Alick Athanaze made Rohit edge his delivery behind the stumps to the wicketkeeper. The India skipper departed after scoring 103 runs off 221 balls with the help of 10 fours and two sixes.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reveals Rohit Sharma’s motivating words:

Unlike Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal did not lose his wicket and ended the day on 142 not out. Giving him company was former India skipper Virat Kohli on 36. Yashasvi Jaiswal received a warm reception from the India squad in the dressing room as all the members shook hands and hugged him while congratulating him for the knock.

Speaking at the end of the day’s play, Yashasvi Jaiswal also revealed his opening partner and Rohit Sharma’s motivating words. The youngster revealed how the skipper motivated him on his debut that helped him do well with the bat.

“I talked a lot to Rohit bhaiya. He was telling me how to play on this wicket. He kept telling me, ‘you have to do it. You’re the only person who can do it’. I also kept thinking the same. I’ve learnt a lot from this game and I will try to continue with the same intensity,” Jaiswal said.
