The Indian cricketing icon, Sachin Tendulkar, has been snubbed as Australian speedster Nathan Ellis picked a combined ODI XI comprising players from India, England, and Australia.

India are currently in Australia and are preparing to play their first ODI game since the ICC Champions Trophy back in February 2025. This series marks the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the Indian side for the three-match ODI series.

Before the start of the highly anticipated series, several Australian players have been asked to pick a combined XI from Indian, English, and Australian players. Now, young pacer Nathan Ellis has also named an XI after being handed the same task.

Indian great snubbed as Australian bowler picks combined ODI XI

Nathan Ellis, the pace bowler from Australia, recently picked a combined ODI XI comprising players from all three giants of World cricket: India, England, and Australia. During his attempt to do so, he has overlooked the greatest ever Indian batter, Sachin Tendulkar, for his XI.

Sachin Tendulkar's absence has shocked all since he still remains the leading run-getter in the format with 18426 runs throughout his ODI career. The batter also amassed 1809 runs across 20 ODI innings in Australia and holds an exceptional record against the World Champions with 6 tons.

Nathan Ellis is likely to play the upcoming game on Sunday against India in Perth. In Pat Cummins' absence, he is likely to pair alongside Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. In his career so far, he has bagged 17 wickets in 15 ODI matches and has returned with the figures of 2/13 and 2/49 in his two outings against the Men in Blue.

Unlike Glenn Maxwell, Ellis names one English player in his XI

While Ellis named Rohit Sharma and Australian swashbuckling opener David Warner as the top two in his XI, he naturally paired Virat Kohli and former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting in the middle order.

Nathan Ellis' surprising selection came to notice when he did not pick a single all-rounder in the side, nor did he pick an additional bowler, but rather named Michael Bevan and English World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan as his no. 5 and no. 6 batters.

The pacer who plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL picked MS Dhoni, the Indian legend, as the wicket-keeper and slotted him at no. 7.

Nathan Ellis picks only three active players for the ODI XI

However, after slotting in his top 7 in the side, when Ellis turned to bowlers, he picked two pacers and two spinners.

He named Jasprit Bumrah the Indian pacer, and Spin legends Shane Warne and Anil Kumble, and pipped Brett Lee over Glenn McGrath. However, Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah remain the only three active players in the combined XI.

Combined XI: Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Michael Bevan, MS Dhoni, Eoin Morgan, Brett Lee, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Jasprit Bumrah.
