India Set To Tour Zimbabwe For A 3-match ODI Series In August
The Indian team will be touring Zimbabwe for a 3-match ODI series that will be part of the ICC One-Day Super League, a report in Cricbuzz revealed on July 8.
The schedule for the same will be confirmed in due time but the ties are expected to be played on August 18, 20, and 22.
“We are absolutely delighted to host India and we look forward to a competitive and memorable series,” a Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) official told Cricbuzz on Friday.
While the series is of significant importance to Zimbabwe which needs points to qualify for the tournament next year in India, Rohit Sharma and co. have already qualified as the hosts.
“It’s a big opportunity for the players to play against the Indian players and for the cricketing fraternity in Zimbabwe.”
“It will create a lot of interest amongst the younger generation to take up this game. Overall, the series is very good for Zimbabwe cricket,” said Lalchand Rajput, the former coach of Zimbabwe, who has now been assigned as the Technical Director.
It will also be a huge boost in revenue for the African side. The last time India toured Zimbabwe was in June-July 2016, back when MS Dhoni was still the captain of the side.
Expected schedule for India vs Zimbabwe:
First ODI – August 18
Second ODI – August 20
Third ODI – August 22
Meanwhile, the Indian team led by Rohit is currently playing a white-ball series against England. They have won the first T20I with two more to go set to be played on July 9 and 10. Considering the hectic schedule, the BCCI might once again opt to send a second-string team, similar to what they had done for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka last year.
