Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are part of the Indian ODI squad that has been selected for the ODI series against West Indies. The first ODI will be played in Barbados on July 27 and possibly both might not feature in the playing XI together.

Yuzvendra Chahal especially is making a comeback to the Indian ODI side after a long time. Chahal did not play any matches against Australia earlier this year. Kuldeep, on the other hand, took six wickets at an economy of 6.10.

It was Kuldeep who was struggling to get into the Indian ODI side between 2020 and 2022. Chahal, in the meantime, picked up 21 wickets in 14 matches in 2022 and picked up just two wickets in three matches this year so far. Kuldeep picked up 12 wickets from 8 ODIs last year and has picked up 15 from just 8 matches this year so far.

Kuldeep Yadav Ahead In The Race Than Yuzvendra Chahal: Wasim Jaffer

While speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer said that Kuldeep and Chahal might not feature in the playing XI together in the ICC World Cup 2023.

“Kuldeep Yadav is a little bit ahead in the race, but I feel if Yuzvendra Chahal gets an opportunity, and if he does well in those opportunities, it could be him also. Having both of them can be a little difficult in the World Cup squad,” Wasim Jaffer said during a discussion on ESPNcricinfo.

He further said that he would prefer Ravindra Jadeja over Axar Patel as the specialist left-handed all-rounder in the playing XI alongside Hardik Pandya.

“I think it will be Ravindra Jadeja, without a doubt, because he is a better bowler. His batting has gone up quite a bit in the last two years. He plays in the Test matches ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin because of his batting. And, sometimes Axar Patel doesn’t finish his quota of overs when things go against him. I feel the experience also counts. Jadeja gives a lot more as a bowler, batter, and fielder compared to Axar,” Jaffer added.

Speaking about the ICC World Cup 2023, it will be played from October 5 to November 19. The IND vs PAK game was scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad on October 15 but as per the latest reports, BCCI is looking for a new date as October 15 coincides with the first day of the Navaratri festival. The final two will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
