Former Indian wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta has said that left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav needs to know what he should do to be in the pecking order and where he stands in terms of selection. Kuldeep Yadav last played for India in a Test match in 2019 and has already taken two five-wicket hauls against Australia, which is not easy by any means. He did not get a game in Australia despite the injuries India was going through.

Kuldeep Yadav has been a match-winner for India ever since he made his debut in international cricket. He can go for runs at times, but always comebacks and takes a lot of wickets. In the last two editions, he has been benched by Kolkata Knight Rider and there were talks about releasing him ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. But he was retained by the franchise, and he will be hoping that he gets some match time.

“Someone Like Him Needs To Get An Answer For” – Deep Dasgupta

Deep Dasgupta was quick to express his displeasure on the non-selection of Kuldeep Yadav who could have started in place of Shahbaz Nadeem for the first Test against England. He felt that this was the perfect opportunity for Kuldeep to get a game and Deep Dasgupta has advised Kuldeep to get clarified about what has to be done for him to be in the pecking order. He also added that Kuldeep is young and too good a spinner to be benched for so many Tests.

“In Australia, there was an opportunity [ for Kuldeep to get selected] he did not. Here [Chepauk] there was a great opportunity again, so where does he stand now? I think that’s an important question. Someone like him needs to get an answer for. I mean what does he have to do, where does he have to do in the pecking order,” Deep Dasgupta said on Sports Today.

“Maybe some clarity is required because he is young, he’s got a lot of cricket left. Maybe he needs to be given some direction in terms of what is expected of him when he needs to improve. How he wants to go about it. I think he’s got a lot of cricket left in him, he’s really good bowler. He’s a match winner,” Deep Dasgupta added.

Ridiculous Decision To Drop Kuldeep Says, Michael Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was really surprised by the Indian team not opting for Kuldeep in their playing XI at Chennai in the first Test. He took it to Twitter and criticized the selection by commenting that it was ridiculous to drop Kuldeep.

“Ridiculous decision by #India not to play @imkuldeep18 [Kuldeep Yadav] !!! If he isn’t going to play at home with the injuries they have when is he going to play !!!”: former England captain Michael Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

India has struggled to dominate proceedings on the first day and England seems to be running away with the game right now.
