Team India head coach Ravi Shastri said the pressure is on England to win the series in their backyard and India have already beaten them 3-1 at home earlier this year.

India were hammered by England at Headingley as they were bowled out for 78 on the first day of the Headingley Test only for England to post 432 to take a whopping lead of 354.

Despite Indian batsmen made efforts to come back in the game, on the third day, England wrapped the match inside the first session of Day 4 to win by an innings and 76 runs.

The series is wide open: Ravi Shastri

Shastri said that the series is widely open and put pressure on Joe Root and his team.

“Even though we showed glimpses of a fight in the second innings, I think that first, you know, early dismissal of our players and getting all out for 78 played its part. But this series is wide open,” Shastri told ‘Times Now Navbharat’ while promoting his new book ‘Stargazing’.

“If anyone thinks that this Indian team is going to back off, they have another thing coming because at 1-1, we are playing overseas, the pressure is on England. They have to win in their own country. We have done what we had to do with them in India. So, the ball is in their court and we will fight, there’s no question about it,” Ravi Sahstri added.

Just think Lord’s, forget the last one: Ravi Shastri to the Indian team

India pulled back the Lord’s Test on the final day as they bowled out England for 120 within two sessions, a task that looked arduous as till the morning England were deemed the favorites to win.

Shastri asked his team to look back at the Lord’s victory and remove the Headingley fame from their mind.

“It’s very easy, you just go back to Lord’s. Just think Lord’s, forget the last one. As simple as that. I know it’s easier said than done but we should remember your good moments as well. Such things happen in the game,” Ravi Shastri said.

“England was in the driver’s seat and we snatched victory. In the last Test match, they bowled brilliantly. They caught us on the hop on the very first day of the Test match, they put us on the back foot,”  Ravi Shastri stated.

The fourth Test will start on Thursday (September 2) with the series tied at 1-1.
