Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison is convinced that Ravichandran Ashwin will finish as one of the greats of all time after the second Test against England. India came out on top in the second Test against England with some stunning performances from Rohit Sharma’s 162 in the first innings, and Ashwin’s taking five wickets in the first innings and backed it up with a century in the second innings.

Ashwin brought up his fifth Test century on a wicket where all the batsman had failed to get going and deserved the man of the match award. This is the third instance where Ashwin has taken a 5 wicket haul and has hit a century in the same Test. He is nearing the 400 test wicket mark and is sure to achieve the landmark in the remaining two Tests. The series is well poised at 1-1.

“He’s A World-Class Performer” – Steve Harmison

Steve Harmison was in all praise of India’s R Ashwin and claimed him to be one of the greats of the game by the time he finishes his career. He lauded Ashwin’s skill, determination and fighting ability and praised his efforts with the bat and ball in the series so far. Ashwin is only second to the great Ian Botham who scored a century and picked a fifer five times in his career while Ashwin has done it three times.

“He’s a world-class performer. When you talk about top-class spin bowlers, he will be one of the greats of the game when he finishes. He’s got huge skill level, determination and guts in a fight – we’ve seen that when he was out in Australia [with India] recently,” Steve Harmison told Sky Sports News.

“In this series so far, he’s been fantastic with the ball and to do what he did – when you look at the stats, it’s the third time he’s taken five wickets and scored a century. Sir Ian Botham did it five times and looking at the other names that are on that list, the likes of Sir Garfield Sobers and people like that with such an achievement, it speaks volumes for how good the guy is,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin Is A Constant Threat Reckons Steve Harmison

Steve Harmison opined that Ashwin has taken the game away from the England team during the second test and revealed the difficulties playing against players like Ashwin. He mentioned that Ashwin is a constant threat for the England team with both bat and ball.

He’s very, very difficult to combat and play against. He has taken the game away from England with the bat, but the way he’s bowled against them has been a constant threat,” Steve Harmison said.
