India vs England 2021: When India Are In A Corner They're Like Tigers, But England Are Too Nicey-Nicey, Says David Lloyd

Former England cricketer David Lloyd believes that the Indian team is more tougher than the England side. He feels Virat Kohli‘s outfit come out all guns blazing when put under pressure, while Joe Root’s Test side are “too nicey-nicey” for that kind of aggression.

Such remarks from the former all-rounder have come in the aftermath of India’s stunning victory at The Oval, where they, despite being bowled out for 191 on Day 1, registered a 157-run win, taking all ten second-innings English wickets on Day 5. With this win, India takes a 2-1 unassailable lead in the series with one match to go.

David Lloyd reckons England need to take inspiration from their Leeds victory when they bounced back from the loss at Lord’s.

“Just as they came back strong at Headingley after losing at Lord’s, so they have to again. What did Iain Dowie call it? Bouncebackability. They have to revamp the performance and spirit of the team,” David Lloyd was quoted by Daily Mail.

“There’s a real toughness about India that’s absent from England. When India are in a corner they’re like tigers, but England are too nicey-nicey.”

For the 74-year-old world-renowned commentator, this Indian team is the best Test team in the world currently. David Lloyd underpinned his compliment on the incredible depth in quality of the side.

He has been astonished by the fact that India have won games with Ravichandran Ashwin, the second-ranked ICC Test bowler, on the bench.

“They are the best Test team in the world. There’s quality all the way through with people like Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav coming in and doing a fantastic job. And if they’re up against the ropes, India don’t half come out fighting. I’ll tell you how good they are: they’re that good they can choose to leave Ravichandran Ashwin out,” the former all-rounder asserted.

With the 2-1 series lead, India go to Manchester, the venue of the fifth Test, upbeat and wanting to claim their first Test series win in England since 2007. The Test at Old Trafford starts on September 10.
