India National Cricket Team senior leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has stated that Rohit Sharma & Co. were the best team in the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

India hosted the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 alone for the very first time. The Men In Blue played magnificent cricket in the home World Cup and registered dominant victories.

They won 9 matches on the trot and remained unbeaten in the league stage. The Men In Blue comprehensively defeated the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the semi-final of the World Cup to seal a place in the final. However, India failed to deliver a good performance in the World Cup final and faced a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Australia National Cricket Team.

In a video shared on AB de Villiers’ official YouTube channel, Yuzvendra Chahal asserted that the Ahmedabad pitch got better under lights after the drinks break in the second innings. He said:

“We were the best team in the World Cup. If you look at the way we bowled and even when we batted the way Rohit Sharma gave good starts and then it was easy for others. In Ahmedabad, the wicket is often slow and it gets better in the second innings. I don’t know whether it was dew but suddenly after the drinks break in the second innings it seemed a different pitch.”

Even in the final, the way Travis Head batted was unbelievable – Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal further lauded Australia National Cricket Team for bouncing back strong after performing poorly in the first couple of matches.

Yuzvendra Chahal showered praise on Glenn Maxwell for his extraordinary double century in the match against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team and Travis Head for his match-winning century in the World Cup final against the India National Cricket Team. He said:

“Definitely the way they (Australia) turned up, Maxi scored a double hundred at it almost felt like he was playing on a PS5 or something (laughs).

“Without even moving his feet he was hitting sixes. It is very hard to bowl to him. Even in the final the way Travis Head batted was unbelievable. To come back after losing first two games to then winning the World Cup, that’s why they are champions.”

Yuzvendra Chahal was not part of India’s squad for the home World Cup. However, he has returned to the ODI setup for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa.
