Harmanpreet Kaur’s Team India will face Pakistan in their opening encounter of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played from February 10 to February 26 in South Africa. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that the Indian Women’s team will start as favourites against arch-rivals in Newlands, Cape Town, on Sunday, February 12.
Team India has a better record against Pakistan in women’s T20 internationals, winning 10 of the 13 matches played in the last 14 years. India had the upper hand against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, winning four out of six matches and losing twice. The Men in Blue are likely to miss one of their star batters as Smriti Mandhana is unavailable due to a finger injury.

Lose Anything Else But Not This Match – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that India will start as favourites, and that they should not take their opponents lightly. The former India opener hopes Renuka Singh will deliver with the new ball, as swing plays an important role while playing in South Africa.
“It is an India-Pakistan World Cup game. Lose anything else but not this match, and we will not lose as well. Our team is strong. India will start as favorites, that is the usual thing, but you can’t take any match lightly and an India-Pakistan match in any case,” Aakash Chopra said.
“When it comes to bowling, they (India) will look towards Renuka Singh Thakur. When you are playing in South Africa and Pakistan are in front of you, you expect that you can trap them with swing. Then our left-arm pacer, there will be focus on her,” he added.
Along with Renuka, India will probably use Pooja Vastrakar as a seam-bowling all-rounder. Either Shikha Pandey or left-arm pacer Anjali Sarwani is likely to get a chance in the playing eleven if the team management prefers a third seamer.
