India women and England women take on each other in the first semi-final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Edgbaston, Birmingham on August 6, Saturday. Australia women take on the white ferns in the second semifinal on the same day. 

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian team finished second in group A and advanced through to the knockouts. They lost to Australia in the first game and then registered big victories over Pakistan (by 8 wickets) and Barbados women (100 runs).

“It feels good to win, 1st wins are important. There were a lot of positives today & we would try to continue this ahead. It’s important to perform as a unit, we had a good start today & won quickly,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after beating Pakistan. 

Kaur surpassed MS Dhoni‘s tally of 41 T20I wins as captain in the match taking her tally to 42. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli sits third on the list with 30 as India’s T20I captain.

England, on the other hand, won all their three games in the league stage. They won against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets, against South Africa by 26 runs and against the White Ferns by 7 wickets to top the group in the league stage.

England previously defeated India by nine runs in the final of the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup. Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami were part of that squad that lost the match to England. This Harmanpreet Kaur-led side has an opportunity to complete sweet revenge against the England team and get a step closer to winning the gold medal at the commonwealth games.

The weather at Edgbaston has stayed clear and sunny throughout the tournament so far. Barring the India-Pakistan game, all the other matches had their full quota of 40 overs played. 

The match starts at 11 am local time which is 3.30 pm IST. The temperature is expected to be around 22 degrees during the day with pleasant weather expected for the game. According to Accuweather, there is a 7 per cent chance of rain which might even be a passing shower.
