Team India is likely to travel to Bangladesh this year, after a series of discussions with the Indian cricket governing body, the BCCI. As it is reported on July 15, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to receive approval to host a white-ball series.

Because of the possible white-ball series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh, the BCCI could consider pushing the T20I series against Afghanistan a few days back from the originally proposed date.

Bangladesh could host India for a white-ball series in September

The limited-overs series against Afghanistan was likely to start on September 14, but if the Indian cricket board prefers to prioritize a series against Bangladesh, then the India vs Afghanistan series could be pushed back to September 17, as reported by the Times of India.

“India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh is nearing approval and to accommodate the fixtures the proposed three T20Is against Afghanistan could be pushed back,” the TOI report read.

India is set to travel to Sri Lanka for a 2-match Test series, with the first match from August 15 to 19 and the second match from August 23 to 27. If BCCI shifts the short series to September 17, then they will have a wide window where a series against Bangladesh is possible.

“It is reliably learnt that discussions are underway to push back the start of that short series to September 17, which would allow enough window after the Sri Lanka Tests to accommodate a short tour of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is keen to have a six-match white-ball series in September," as mentioned in the media report.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is still hopeful of arranging a white-ball home series against India. This could be a 6-match contest, which is subject to BCCI's approval. BCB is desperate to arrange a series on their home turf to restore their relationship with the neighbouring cricket board, which was damaged ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup when BCB officials refused to send their national cricket team to India for the elite tournament.

Bangladesh hopes to receive a green signal from the BCCI

Since the controversial incident, multiple things have changed in BCB as newly elected officials took over the charge to take the board and the nation's cricket forward. A series between India and Bangladesh was originally slated to take place last year. Due to political turmoil, the series did not take place as it was chalked on the board.

A BCB official told the Times of India that they are hopeful to host the Men in Blue for a series soon. Though they are yet to receive approval from the BCCI, BCB remains hopeful as the Indian cricket board did not say no to a bilateral series in Bangladesh.

“We are hopeful about the tour. We haven't got the green signal as yet from the BCCI, but they also have not said they are not coming. So we are hoping to get a positive response from the BCCI soon,” a BCB official told the media house.
