Australian Cricket might see a stadium with a roof in Hobart City soon as the Tasmania Cricket Board is planning for the same. Tasmania Cricket Board is all set to develop a cricket stadium with a roof that will feature indoor Test cricket.
The representatives of the Tasmanian Cricket said they are planning to come up with such a stadium to host red-ball cricket. However, they also accepted that there are some issues like the height of the roof which is highly expected to create an issue.
Australia is known for bigger stadiums and some of the best-developed stadiums in cities like Perth, Adelaide, Syndey, and Brisbane among others. Six crucial cricket stadiums in Australia host international games. However, Australia has many cricket stadiums like India to host domestic and other tournaments.

Hobart Stadium to focus on red-ball cricket
During a chat with SEN, Macquarie Point Development Corporation CEO Anne Beach said Tasmania Cricket Club is planning to develop a stadium with a roof to host indoor games.
"We want to get to red-ball [cricket], that's our focus. The tricky thing is…we can't be accredited until it's built so what we need to do is keep working through the detail and design process with Cricket [Tasmania] and Cricket Australia and work with them to brief ICC to make sure they have all the information available", he was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
"We are workshopping with them through detailed design so we are making sure we are factoring in everything they need, so they have a clear understanding of how it's coming together then hopefully that sign-off process is pretty smooth", he further said.
Alistair Richardson, Cox Architecture CEO, who is looking after the design, feels that the biggest issue is the height of the roof.
"Cricket's biggest concern was the height of the roof...they cited concerns with Marvel Stadium where the ball could potentially hit the roof. What we've done is we've worked through looking at Hawk-Eye and the ball-tracking technology, to actually assess the maximum height that anyone's hit a ball, which is quite interesting", he said.
Dubai Cricket Stadium has a semi-circled roof without floodlights
Notably, Dubai Cricket Stadium in UAE has a semi-circled roof but it is out of the boundary line. It doesn’t have any floodlights but the roof is outside the boundary area. It also helps to battle sand storms inside the stadium, something which is very common in UAE.
However, a complete roof stadium is yet to be developed in international cricket. The new stadium in Hobart might be a big attraction for cricket fans.
However, it is to be noted that the city has not hosted many games in the past. However, Australia's national cricket team has many Test series going forward like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
