The International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting this weekend in Dubai will address the long-running dispute between Pakistan and India over their participation in the Asia Cup and Men’s ODI World Cup. The Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC), the CC Board, and the Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee will discuss Afghanistan’s future and the India-Pakistan issue.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India in October and November. Earlier, BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah announced that Indian players will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and the tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

The first quarterly meeting of the year started with the women’s cricket committee on Thursday and continued with the men’s committee on Friday. The Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meets on Saturday before the ICC Board, and the Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) Committee meets on Sunday and Monday to discuss the standoff between Pakistan and India.

The ICC Working Committee will provide an update on Afghanistan to the ICC Board since the Taliban took control in August 2021, assuring them that the government has not interfered in cricket-related matters and recognizing the impossibility of women’s cricket under Taliban authority. The executive committee argues that the issue of women’s cricket is outside the purview of the ACB and should not be fined, but members are asking for a clear policy statement.

I Will Go And Talk With Both ICC And ACC On This Matter – Najam Sethi

Earlier, Najam Sethi said that he would raise the issue of hosting the 2023 Asia Cup in the upcoming ACC and ICC meetings to take a clear stand, keeping all options open. He said that if India does not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the PCB will consider not playing the World Cup in India.

“We have complex issues on hand but for me when I go to the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) and ICC meetings I have kept all options open for us and we have to take a clear position now. There are two different matters, one is of ICC and the other is of ACC. This is not only about Asia Cup because we also have to host the Champions Trophy. I will go and talk with both ICC and ACC on this matter,” said Sethi at a press conference earlier this week.
