IPL 2021 is set to entertain Indian cricket fans from next month. The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League commences on April 9, 2021, with the first match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The tournament will be played at six venues and no team will get the home advantage in IPL 2021.

The playoffs matches are scheduled to be played at Narendra Modi cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. The tournament will end with the final match on May 30 at Narendra Modi cricket stadium in Ahmadabad.

All eight teams have chosen their skipper who will lead the teams in IPL 2021. MS Dhoni will lead Chennai Super Kings, Virat Kohli will be the skipper for Royal Challengers Bangalore, David Warner will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma will lead Mumbai Indians, Eoin Morgan will lead Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer will lead Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul will lead Punjab Kings and Sanju Samson will lead Rajasthan Royals.

However, when the team does not perform well during the tournament, some teams change their skipper mid-season. This has happened in the past and might happen in IPL 2021 too. Here we look at 3 teams that can change their captain mid-season in IPL 2021.

Eoin Morgan will lead Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021. In the previous season in IPL 2020, Dinesh Karthik led the team in the initial games. However, after the team did not perform efficiently under his captainship, Eoin Morgan was given the opportunity to lead the team.

In the end, Kolkata Knight Riders finished on the 5th spot and did not qualify for playoffs. Eoin Morgan will lead the team but if he fails to deliver, the team might change the skipper midway during the season. So Kolkata Knight Riders are one team that can change their captain mid-season.

David Warner will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021. However, the Australian batsman is suffering from a groin injury. Warner has been a phenomenal skipper for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team won the IPL trophy under his captainship in IPL 2016. David Warner’s name always features among leading run-scorers in IPL tournament. In IPL 2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished in the 3rd position in the points table.

In an earlier interview, Warner had disclosed that his groin injury might take 5-6 months to recover.  If Warner’s groin injury grows during IPL 2021, the team will have to change their skipper midway during the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals was led by Steve Smith in IPL 2020 but after the team’s poor performance, the franchisee released Smith from the team and promoted Sanju Samson as the new skipper for IPL 2021. Rajasthan Royals finished on the bottommost 8th spot in IPL 2020. Sanju Samson has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders in IPL 2021 as Rajasthan Royals’ skipper. Sanju Samson does not have much experience as a skipper.

The wicket-keeper batsman Sanju will be under a lot of scrutinies during the tournament. There are many experienced players in Rajasthan Royals like Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, who are good options for skippers. If the team fails to deliver under Sanju Samson’s leadership, the team might drop him as the skipper midway during the tournament.
