Mumbai Indians will start their IPL journey with the first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9, 2021. It will be the first game of IPL 2021 which will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions. The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians won the trophy in IPL 2020 and they also won the trophy in IPL 2019. Hence, Mumbai Indians will eye the third consecutive trophy in IPL 2021.
Mumbai Indians retained their core team and released 7 players out of the squad ahead of IPL 2021. They were- Prince Balwant Rai, Digvijay Deshmukh, Lasith Malinga, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, Sherfane Rutherford, and Mitchell McCleneghan. However, Nathan Coulter-Nile was again bought by Mumbai Indians during IPL 2021 auction. Other than Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mumbai Indians also bought 6 other players during IPL 2021 auction.
Mumbai Indians have some quality overseas players in the team who are like a backbone for the team. Since these overseas players are very strong, other overseas players find it difficult to replace them and find a place in the playing 11. Here we look at 4 overseas players of Mumbai Indians who might be benched throughout IPL 2021.
IPL 2021: 4 Overseas Players Of Mumbai Indians Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Season
Chris Lynn
Chris Lynn joined Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 but he did not play any game for the team in the tournament. Since Lynn is an opening batsman, Quinton de Kock was chosen over him. In IPL 2021 too, Lynn might be benched throughout the season as Quinton de Kock will be a crucial overseas batsman for the team.
Adam Milne
Mumbai Indians bought Adam Milne for Rs. 3.2 crore during IPL 2021 auction. Adam Milne is a New Zealand pacer. Mumbai Indians already have Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile as overseas pacers in the team so Adam Milne has a tough competition. Also, Milne does not have great experience in the Indian Premier League. He has played only 5 matches in IPL so far and got 4 wickets. So Adam Milne might have to sit out throughout IPL 2021.
James Neesham
All-rounder James Neesham was bought for Rs. 50 lakh during IPL 2021 auction. Neesham is an all-rounder and Mumbai Indians already have outstanding all-rounders like Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya in the team. It is less likely that Mumbai Indians will replace any of the two with James Neesham in the playing 11. Therefore, James Neeshaam is another player who might be benched throughout IPL 2021.
Marco Jansen
Marco Jansen is a young South African player who was bought by Mumbai Indians during IPL 2021. Marco Jansen is yet to play an international match. He has played in South Africa’s domestic T20 tournament Mzansi Super League. Marco Jansen is quite young and inexperienced for IPL so he might be dropped from the playing 11 during IPL 2021.
