Delhi Capitals were the runner-up in IPL 2020 after the Shreyas Iyer-led team lost to Mumbai Indians in the final. However, Delhi Capitals showcased a spectacular performance in the tournament, finishing on the 2nd spot in the points table. This was the closest Delhi Capitals ever came to victory. Ahead of IPL 2021 auction, Delhi Capitals released 6 players out of their squad. Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mohit Sharma, and Jason Roy were the players Delhi Capitals decided to part ways with.
In IPL 2021 auction, the franchisee bought 8 new players. Delhi Capitals bought English all-rounder Tom Curran for Rs. 5.25 crore- their costliest deal in IPL 2021 auction. Apart from Tom Curran, Delhi Capitals bought Steve Smith for Rs. 2 crore, Sam Billings for Rs. 2 crore, Umesh Yadav for Rs. 1 crore, Ripal Patel for Rs. 20 lakh, Vishnu Vinod for Rs. 20 lakh, Lukman Meriwala for Rs. 20 lakh and M Siddharth for Rs. 20 lakh.

With the addition of these players, Delhi Capitals is expected to come out a lot stronger in IPL 2021. However, there will be few players who will not be able to arrive on the field during IPL 2021. Here we look at 5 players from Delhi Capitals who might be benched throughout IPL 2021 tournament.
IPL 2021: 5 Players From Delhi Capitals Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Tournament
Lalit Yadav

Lalit Yadav has been a part of the Delhi Capitals for more than one season but he is yet to play a match for the franchisee. The 23-year-old all-rounder has played 12 first-class, 20 list A and 35 T20 matches in his career so far. In IPL 2021 season too, the young cricketer has very little chance of breaking into the playing 11 for Delhi Capitals.
Lalit Yadav is a right-arm off-break bowler, therefore he faces competition with Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra and Axar Patel for the spinner’s spot. Delhi Capitals also has experienced batsmen like Shreyas Iyer, Steve Smith, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant in the squad. Therefore, it is less likely that Lalit Yadav will get a chance to be part of playing 11 in IPL 2021.
Ripal Patel

All-rounder Ripal Patel was bought by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 auction. The 25-year-old all-rounder has played 6 List A matches and 11 T20s so far. He plays for Gujarat at the domestic level. Ripal Patel might be benched throughout IPL 2020 as Delhi Capitals comprise of top-level all-rounders like Marcus Stoinis and Ravichandran Ashwin in the team. Ripal Patel is also a relatively much less experienced player in the squad.
Lukman Meriwala

Lukman Meriwala is a left-arm fast-medium bowler who has not played an international match so far. He was bought for Rs. 20 lakh during IPL 2021 auction. The 29-year-old plays for Baroda at the domestic level. Meriwala has played 17 first-class matches, 35 List A matches and 44 T20 matches, but he is yet to make a debut in IPL.
However, with pacers like Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Chris Woakes, Anrich Nortje and Umesh Yadav already in the DC squad, there are very few chances that Lukman Meriwala will find a place in the playing 11 in IPL 2021.
M Siddharth

M Siddharth entered IPL in 2019 after KKR bought him in IPL 2019 auction. The slow left-arm bowler became part of the Delhi Capitals after the franchisee bought him for Rs. 20 lakh in IPL 2021 auction. M Siddharth is yet to play an IPL match. In Delhi Capitals, he is less likely to be picked up for a match.
Delhi Capitals already has world-class slow bowlers like Amit Mishra, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin. Therefore, M Siddharth might be benched throughout IPL 2021 tournament.
Vishnu Vinod

Delhi Capitals bought wicket-keeper Vishnu Vinod for Rs. 20 lakh in IPL 2021 auction. The 27-year-old player plays for Kerala at the domestic level. He was earlier part of Royal Challengers Bangalore. In IPL 2017, he played three matches for RCB scoring 19 runs. With Rishabh Pant as the primary wicket-keeper in the team, Vishnu Vinod has very less chances of making it to the playing 11 for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.
