Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has picked up a shoulder injury during the first ODI against England and has been ruled out for the remainder of the series as well as for IPL 2021. Shreyas Iyer had suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder while fielding and scans confirmed that he won’t take part in any action further until the IPL 2021 gets over.

This will be a major worry for the Delhi Capitals as their skipper has played a great part in taking the franchise to success and they will be looking for a new captain to replace Iyer for this tournament. Delhi, fortunately, has a lot of options for the captaincy to pick from, and here are 5 players who can replace Shreyas Iyer in Delhi Capitals.

5 Players Who Can Replace Shreyas Iyer In Delhi Capitals (DC):

5. Priyank Panchal:

Priyank Panchal has been on the Indian test player’s standby for a long time now and this will be a great opportunity for him to establish his skills in the cash-rich tournament. The right-hand batsmen from Gujarat have played 45 T20 games scoring 1139 runs at an average of 27.8 and strike rate of 125.7.

He hasn’t been part of the IPL so far and this will be a great breakthrough in his career considering his performances in the past. He has been in the eyes of the selectors and under Ricky Ponting’s guidance, he will be able to take his game to next level for sure.

4. Kedar Devdhar:

The wicket-keeper batsman from Baroda played an important part in taking his side to the finals in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-2021 and was the top run-scorer for the side in the tournament. He played eight games and finished with 349 runs at an average of 69.80 with two half-centuries in the tournament.

He has been part of the IPL already and has played one game for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. Despite being the second-highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-2021, he wasn’t picked up any team in the IPL which was very surprising. He could be a top contender to replace Shreyas Iyer in the Delhi Capitals.

3. Vishnu Solanki:

Vishnu Solanki was also part of the finalist Baroda in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-2021 and he finished as the fifth-highest run-scorer in the tournament overall. He scored 267 runs in the eight games he played at an average of 53.40 with two half-centuries.

He was expected to be picked up in the IPL auction this year due to his recent performances but went unsold and this will be the perfect opportunity to make his way into the big stages. The 28-year-old has good numbers in his overall T20 career and could be in line to replace Shreyas Iyer in the Delhi Capitals.

2. Avi Barot

Avi Barot is a hard-hitting batsman from Saurashtra and he set the stage on fire in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-2021 with a blistering 122 run knock-off just 53 deliveries. He had a strike rate of more than 180 in the tournament and will be a good option for the Delhi Capitals.

He finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 283 runs in 5 games an average of 56.60 with one century and one-half century. He was pipped to be a good buy in the auction 2021 but went unsold and this will be a great opportunity for him if he replaces Iyer at Delhi.

1.Hanuma Vihari

The Indian test specialist went unsold in the IPL Auction 2021 which was very surprising as he saved India with a brave knock in the third test in Sydney against Australia. His strike rate has been a big question mark for him in limited-overs cricket, and he has been released by IPL teams in the past.

He was part of the Delhi Capitals unit in 2019 and did not have much impact with the bat which made the franchise released him ahead of the next auction. He has played 24 IPL games scoring 284 runs with the highest score of 46. Given the experience of playing in IPL as well as for India, he will be a better player to replace Shreyas Iyer at the Delhi Capitals.
