IPL 2021 will kickstart on April 9, 2021, and Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first game. The match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions of the tournament as they defeated Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 final to lift the trophy.

The 7 players which Mumbai Indians released were Prince Balwant Rai, Digvijay Deshmukh, Lasith Malinga, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, Sherfane Rutherford, and Mitcs which Mumbhell McCleneghan. Out of these, Nathan Coulter-Nile was bought by Mumbai Indians during IPL 2021 auction for Rs. 5 crore. Other players which Mumbai Indians bought during IPL 2021 auction were Adam Milne, Piyush Chawla, James Neesham, Yudhvir Charak, Marco Jansen, and Arjun Tendulkar.
