IPL 2021: Former Indian Cricketer Says Virat Kohli Could Be Removed From Captaincy In The Mid-Way

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli will be trying his best to help his side win an IPL trophy under his captaincy for the last time.

A day before RCB’s game against KKR, Kohli announced that he would step down from the team’s captaincy at the end of this season.

This decision came just days after the player had decided to leave India’s T20I skipper role after the T20 World Cup in November.

RCB lost to KKR by nine wickets

These back to back decisions of Kohli stunned not only his fans but also his close aides and cricket pundits, who have drafted their different theories behind the Indians skipper’s sudden changes.

RCB lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets on Monday in Abu Dhabi and the team’s net run rate dipped to -0.706.

Virat Kohli to be removed from captaincy in mid-way?

A former Indian cricketer feels that Kohli might be removed from the captaincy in the mid-way of the tournament citing the examples of Dinesh Karthik and David Warner’s.

“Look at the way he was playing against Kolkata Knight Riders. Just clueless! It seems he is struggling big time right now. There are chances that he could be removed mid-way through the season. It has happened earlier also with other teams — like with Dinesh Karthik in KKR and David Warner in Sunrisers Hyderabad, among others,” the cricketer told news agency IANS on the condition of anonymity.

“They were either removed or they stepped down mid-way. So it can happen in RCB as well… I have this feeling after watching yesterday’s match. One more bad game and you can see a change in RCB captaincy right away,” he added.

RCB started their IPL 2021 campaign on a good note as they won their first five matches which kept them at the top of the points table. But Virat Kohli and his men lost three matches in a row and will be under pressure to win their remaining games.
