KKR’s chief mentor David Hussey has revealed the reasons why Andre Russell bats at a lower position for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021. Andre Russell batted at the no.7 spot in the match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021. Due to his lower batting order, he arrived at the crease in the 16th over. However, many fans feel that Russell should come to the crease early so that he can get some time to settle on the crease.

Andre Russell smashed a quickfire knock in the match against Chennai Super Kings. He thrilled the fans with a 22-ball-54. In the match against Rajasthan Royals, Russell could only score 9 runs off 7 balls. Kolkata Knight Riders could only manage 133-9 batting first, giving a chance of comfortable victory to Rajasthan Royals who won by 6 wickets in the end.

We Back Andre Russell To Get Us 30-40 Runs In The End: David Hussey

When asked about Andre Russell’s batting position in the match, Hussey said that team wants him to score 30-40 runs in the final odd 4 overs.

“We had a partnership going on at that stage when Andre Russell was due to come in next. With four odd overs to go, we back him to get us 30-40 runs off around 15 balls. In a perfect world, he can go at No.3 and make two hundred, I guess. But that wasn’t tonight,” David Hussey.

David Hussey also informed that Kolkata Knight Riders will rethink their batting strategies before the upcoming match against Punjab Kings.

“We could look at all strategies when it comes to our batting. We play Punjab Kings in a couple of days, and everything (all the options) is on the table,” David Hussey further said.

KKR batsmen have failed to perform consistently in the tournament so far. Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered a tough time on the field in IPL 2021. The Eoin Morgan-led side has lost 4 matches in a row and their only victory came in their opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

With 4 losses in 5 matches, Kolkata Knight Riders have dropped to the bottom spot in IPL 2021 points table. KKR was set to play their next game against Punjab Kings. The encounter will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday (April 25).
