IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals Part Ways With Head Coach Andrew McDonald

The Rajasthan Royals franchise has decided to part ways with Andrew Mcdonald as their head coach and has appointed Trevor Penny as their ‘Lead Assistant Coach’ for IPL 2021. Trevor Penny has already served on the coaching staff for Kings XI Punjab (previously Kings XI Punjab), Deccan Chargers, and Kolkata Knight Riders and has worked as an assistant coach with St Lucia Zouks and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.

Penny is currently working with the West Indies cricket team as an assistant coach for their men’s white-ball teams. The former Warwickshire player worked with the Indian team as a fielding coach and as a head coach for the Sri Lanka cricket team. He is more likely to bring in a lot of experience to the Rajasthan players in his coaching stint. He is an excellent fielder and fielded as a substitute fielder for England in the Ashes 2005.

Jake Lush McCrum Thanks Andrew Mcdonald

Jake Lush McCrum, COO, of  Rajasthan Royals thanked Andrew Mcdonald for the efforts put in by the Australian all-rounder during the tough Covid times. Rajasthan Royals started the season well in the 2020 IPL but faded away in the middle and couldn’t catch up with the teams in the end. They finished in the last position in the standings and a new captain has been appointed for the Rajasthan Royals team.

“Everyone at Rajasthan Royals would like to thank Andrew for his efforts towards the IPL season 13. He coached the team during an incredibly challenging COVID restricted period and we would like to wish him all the very best for his future endeavours with the Australian Men’s Cricket Team and the Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred”, said Jake Lush McCrum, COO, Rajasthan Royals.

Kumar Sangakkara Happy To Welcome Trevor Penny

Former Srilankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara who is the director of the Rajasthan franchise was happy to welcome Trevor Penny to the Royals coaching staff. He told that Trevor Penny’s reading of the game will contribute a lot to the team’s success and the player’s development.

“It’s fantastic to have Trevor Penney on board here at Rajasthan Royals. He’s very experienced and understands the game very well which I am sure will help contribute to the players’ and squad’s overall growth. I’m confident Trevor’s appointment is going to set us on the right pathway and it will be wonderful to have him work with our squad,” said  Kumar Sangakkara.

Trevor Penney will be working with Royals’ newly-appointed Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, who will be the “decision-maker in the structure”, captain Sanju Samson, spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahatule, fast bowling coach Rob Cassell and fielding coach Dishant Yagnik.
