Legendary Australian cricketer and the current head coach of the Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting, has revealed his pre-match ritual ahead of his team’s IPL 2021 opener against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on Saturday night.
Ricky Ponting revealed that he makes it a point to go clean shave on the eve of the match day. The two-time World Cup-winning captain recently gave a passionate pep-talk to his Delhi Capitals squad ahead of the 14th season of the IPL.
The video went viral on social media with fans comparing his speech to Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s famous speech in the 2007 Hockey-based movie Chak De India.
The Delhi Capitals shared a clip of the same on their official Twitter account with the caption-
“The only difference between Ricky Ponting and Kabir Khan is that the latter had a stubble on Matchday.”
Ricky Ponting even joked that his wife will divorce him if she sees him with stubble during the match.
“If I do (keep his stubble), my wife will see me on television once, and she will probably divorce me if she sees that. I’ll be having a shave over the next couple of days. Make sure when the game day comes around… It’s always a ritual of mine anyway. I’m not sure if you guys have ever noticed this, but I’m clean shaven the night before every game. So I’ll be having a shave for sure,” said the former Australian captain Ricky Poning.

Meanwhile, last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals will be fielding a heavily depleted squad in their season opener against the Chennai Super Kings.
As if the absence of regular skipper Shreyas Iyer [due to shoulder injury] wasn’t enough, the Capitals will be without their superstar fast bowling combination of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje due to quarantine issues. Axar Patel will also not be available as he was recently diagnosed with Covid.
Delhi Capitals got the better of Chennai Super Kings on both occasions last year but with them missing a whole host of their first-choice players and CSK getting bolstered with the addition of Suresh Raina, the task will be arduous this time around.
