Punjab Kings middle-order batsman, Shahrukh Khan has revealed that apart from playing the finisher role, he has the skill sets to take the team through in tough situations too. Punjab Kings faltered for a paltry score of 106 in their second game against Chennai Super Kings yesterday and Shahrukh Khan was the only limelight for the franchise.
Shahrukh Khan top-scored for the team with a brisk 47 runs of 36 deliveries and helped Punjab get the total above 100. He hit four fours and two sixes in his innings and deserved a half-century for his efforts. It was his second game in the IPL and he has shown a lot of composure through the innings. Deepak Chahar created havoc in the Punjab batting line picking up four wickets for 13 runs in the spell.
“You Need To Take The Responsibility And See The Team Through” – Shahrukh Khan
Shahrukh Khan stressed the fact that he will have to assess the team situation and play accordingly. Despite being the finisher, he understands that he cannot try to smack every ball out of the game when wickets have been falling around him. He added that he has batted in the top order in his early days and has revealed that he has the skillsets to take his team home in tough situations.
“My role is playing down the order as a finisher. But you can’t go out there and blast the ball in every game. There will be situations where the team could get bundled out. You need to take the responsibility and see the team through. I don’t think I am branded as a complete finisher.” said Shahrukh Khan
“I am a good batsman. I was batting up the order for Tamil Nadu for a couple of years. I have been batting up the order throughout. I have the skill in me to bat and see the team through as well in tough situations”. he added
Shahrukh Khan Helped By The Seniors In The Team
Shahrukh Khan has stated that he has been improving his game a lot from the big players in the team. He understands that he is still new to the IPL and he will have to gain a lot of experience from the seniors around him. He was bought for 5.25 crores in the auction and has already shown glimpses of his striking abilities.
“(Learning) A lot of points. The way they have been having conversations with people, trying to help everyone improve everyday. Nicholas Pooran, Chris Gayle, Dawid Malan and obviously KL (Rahul) and so many such big player,” said Shahrukh Khan.
When they talk to you and when they see you in the nets and say certain things, it is really going to help your batting improve. I am obviously still new to the IPL, and there is still a long way to go. I am going to take lot of thoughts and advice from them and go out there and use it,” he added
CSK cruised to win by 6 wickets despite Shahrukh Khan’s efforts. Punjab Kings have had a decent season so far having won a game and lost a game out of the 2 games played so far.
