IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad Should Have Sent Jonny Bairstow Instead Of Kane Williamson During Super Over Against Delhi Capitals, Says Pragyan Ojha

Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha feels that Sunrisers Hyderabad should have sent Jonny Bairstow on the field instead of Kane Williamson during the super over against Delhi Capitals. The IPL 2021 clash between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad ended in a tie after the latter also scored 159 while batting second. The match went to the super over where Delhi Capitals managed to pull off the victory.
In the super over, David Warner and Kane Williamson arrived on the field to bat for Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, both failed to hit enough runs off Axar Patel’s over. With just one boundary, SRH managed to score 8 runs, out of which one run was later deducted for being a short run.
Jonny Bairstow, who earlier smashed 38 runs off 18 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours in the match, was not chosen to take the crease in the super over.
Why Not Send Jonny Bairstow With David Warner, Asks Pragyan Ojha
While talking about the SRH vs DC match, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha pointed out that Sunrisers Hyderabad should have sent Jonny Bairstow instead of Kane Williamson in the super over.
“Yes, definitely (Hyderabad missed a trick by not sending Jonny Bairstow in Super Over). With all due respect to Kane Williamson, he is someone who can anchor and build an innings. But in the super over you need someone who can hit those boundaries and sixes. Someone like Bairstow got 38 off 18 balls, so why not him with David Warner? That is something that will haunt them,” Pragyan Ojha said.
Ojha also lauded Axar Patel for bowling a great super over for Delhi Capitals, which consisted of two dot balls. AxarPatel was playing his first match in IPL 2021. He had to skip the first 4 games after being tested positive for Covid-19.
“What a Super Over! I can understand on a wicket like this you are bowling in the regular match. But in the Super Over to have 2 dot balls, and that too after you know…
“He’s not been practicing, not been in the team for such a long time and straightaway coming in and taking the pressure head-on, I think that was superb and it shows that he was prepared for it,” Pragyan Ojha further said.
Needing 8 runs to win from the super over, Delhi Capitals managed to pull off the victory. Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan took the crease for Delhi Capitals in the super over, which was bowled by Rashid Khan.
With the victory, Delhi Capitals moved to the 2nd spot in the points table with 4 victories in 5 games. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are placed on the 7th spot in the points table with just 1 victory in 5 matches in IPL 2021 so far.
