Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha came up with an interesting example to explain why youngsters like Sanju Samson need to perform consistently to cement their place in the national team. Ojha comments came after Sanju Samson-led side Rajasthan Royals defeated Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets in a low-scoring thriller. Ojha said that young players like Sanju Samson are like pre-paid sim cards, who need to perform consistently.
Sanju Samson played a brilliant knock in the first match against Punjab Kings. The Rajasthan Royals skipper smashed a century while chasing a mammoth target of 222. Samson’s 119 runs off 63 balls put Rajasthan Royals in the driver’s seat but they ultimately remained short of 4 runs.
However, Samson gained the limelight in the match and also won the player of the match award for his magnificent knock.
Young Players Like Sanju Samson Are Pre-Paid Sim Cards: Pragyan Ojha
While speaking to Sport Today, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha said that young players like Sanju Samson are like pre-paid sim cards. They have to perform consistently to make a place in the national team.
“When you talk about Sanju Samson, there is one thing. When he came into this side, there was no Rishabh Pant, there was no Ishan Kishan. In this present Indian team, consider this interesting story Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are like post-paid sim cards. They can push themselves for a bit more time without paying the bills,” Pragyan Ojha said.
“But quite a few youngsters are like pre-paid sim cards. It has to be renewed in the given time otherwise the sim is dead. All these youngsters should understand they are not post-paid sim cards. They are pre-paid sim cards, to become postpaid, they have to perform consistently,” Pragyan Ojha further added.
Samson was nominated as the new skipper of Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2021. The franchise dropped their previous skipper Steve Smith from the squad ahead of IPL 2021 auction. This was due to Rajasthan Royals’ poor performance last year in IPL 2020 when the team finished on the 8th spot in the points table.
Samson made his international debut in 2015. He has played 7 T20Is so far, scoring 83 runs at an average of 11.86. In IPL, the 26-year-old Samson has a great record. In 105 innings, he has scored 2707 runs with 3 centuries and 13 half-centuries.
