What is also understood is that Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood who was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the retention window is expecting a baby in March. However, he has asserted that he will be available for the tournament in May.
The BCCI has reportedly informed all the franchises regarding this recent development. Hazlewood after his recent success with the Australian team is among the bowlers who will be targeted across franchises. he has kept his base price at 2 crores like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.
Furthermore, while a majority of the England players will be available for auction, the young leg spinner Rehan Ahmed will not be available for the IPL 2024 auction. The rest of the players will be available for the next year’s competition depending on their international commitments. Ben Stokes and Joe Root have already opted out from the IPL 2024 auction. England speedster Jofra Archer has been released by Mumbai Indians and will not go back into the auction.
Ahead of the auction, Gujarat Titans traded Hardik Pandya who was roped in by Mumbai Indians by completing an all-cash trade deal. He was also named the captain of the franchise becoming Rohit Sharma’s successor. This is perhaps the biggest news that happened in the lead-up to the auction. Almost all the IPL franchises have a set captain. For KKR Shreyas Iyer will return as the captain of the franchise after missing the previous edition.
As per reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is unwilling to send their players into the auction and eventually in the IPL due to international commitments. The board is thinking about whether or not to give their players the NOC. Three Bangladesh players namely, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam have put their names up for the IPL auction 2024. Ahmed and Shoriful will reportedly not be available for the IPL but Mustafizur will be available from March 22 to May 11.
The 10 franchises have so far invested nearly 738 crores in the players that they have retained. Gujarat Titans will have the maximum purse heading into the IPL 2024 auction with 38.15 crores while Rajasthan has the least with 14.5 crores. The 10 teams have a cumulative remaining purse of nearly 263 crores heading into the auction.
