Mitchell Starc has enrolled himself in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction after a gap of 8 years. The Australian pacer last played in the IPL in 2015. Back then he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mitchell Starc has taken 34 wickets in 27 IPL games between 2014-2015.
He is one of the most popular names going into the IPL 2024 auction. He along with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are the three premier Australian pacers who will be up for the auction. All of them are almost certain to find a franchise. Overall 77 slots are to be filled up at the auction with 30 slots available for overseas players.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has spoken about who among all the franchises might be more interested in buying Mitchell Starc. He said that given RCB and MI play all their matches on flat pitches both these teams might be interested in roping in Starc.
He further said that Starc, ability to reverse swing the ball and his accurate yorkers in the death overs help him to take the pitch out of the equation and concentrate on his strengths.
“Teams that have to play half their home games on absolutely flat pitches may go for him. He is one bowler in the world who will maybe take the pitch out of the equation, do all the magic in the air, get swing and the hurl in yorkers with the new ball and at the death. So, teams like Mumbai Indians, who have got (Jason) Behrendorff along with Jasprit Bumrah, could show interest in him after letting go Jofra Archer,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying on Star Sports after India’s first ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 17.
On Flat Pitches Mitchell Starc And Jasprit Bumrah Will Bring The Team Back Into The Game: Sanjay Manjrekar
He further said that bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Japrit Bumrah are quality bowlers on flat pitches where most others struggle. He said that they do not rely on the pitch but on their skills to bring their team back into the game.
“RCB have got Reece Topley, who is a pretty good bowler, but on flat pitches where most bowlers struggle,On flat pitches where most bowlers struggle, Starc and Bumrah are the kind of bowlers who will bring the team back into the game with their bowling because they don’t rely on the pitch as much as some of the other bowlers” Majrekar added.
Mitchell Starc last played in the IPL in 2015 and stayed out of the league to focus on his international career. He has had rich success with the Australian national team across formats winning the ODI World Cup twice, the T20 World Cup in 2021, Ashes series wins and the WTC final win in 2021. In all these wins, he had a severe role to play with the ball.
Starc’s recent outing was in the ODI World Cup where he was a part of the victorious Australian side. He picked up 16 wickets from 10 matches at an economy rate of 6.06. Currently, he is playing the Test series against Pakistan.
