MS Dhoni is like a big brother to all the players inside the Chennai Super Kings dressing room. We have heard countless stories of youngsters walking upto him for advice. Ambati Rayudu who was a part of CSK between 2018-2023 spoke about his influence recently and his impact on the younger players.
Rayudu announced his retirement from the IPL after helping CSK win their fifth IPL title in 2023. It was his third with the franchise and he played an important part in the win. The right-hander scored a quickfire cameo of 19 runs off 8 balls in his team’s victory.
Recently in an interview on Behindwoods TV, Rayudu opened up on MS Dhoni’s relationship with Deepak Chahar whom he treats as his younger brother.
Whenever Dhoni Bhai Comes Up With Some Advice, He Has Some Excuse: Ambati Rayudu On MS Dhoni’s Bond With Deepak Chahar
“The thing with Deepak is he thinks he knows it all (laughs). So whenever Dhoni bhai comes up with some advice, he has some excuse or some different theory to it. But at the end of the day, he is a brilliant cricketer and a good person at heart and they (Deepak and Dhoni) have that camaraderie which is nice like an elder and a younger brother,” said Rayudu.
He further spoke about his temper and said how his anger led his team to lose a few points on the Fairplay award points table.
“Me and Watson had the habit of reacting whenever the umpire didn’t give a wide or when there were too many bouncers bowled. So that time in the heat of the moment it is difficult to control your emotions and so some points get deducted. Dhoni bhai realized that till we are in the team, he won’t get the Fair Play award (laughs),” said an elated Rayudu.
He concluded by saying a word about his rapport with former CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. He said that he is great friends with Bravo and that he is an IPL legend.
“He (Bravo) irritates me a lot. He thinks if he speaks something negative it will bring out the best in me. But sometimes I just tell him to shut up (laughs). We are very good friends” concluded Rayudu.
The veteran CSK cricketer retired from IPL after IPL 2023. He has won six IPL titles three each with MI and CSK.
