Former South African pacer Morne Morkel will continue as the bowling coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. This will be his second with the franchise. Having made the playoffs twice, LSG is yet to make the final of the IPL.
The franchise parted ways with Andy Flower who was the coach of the franchise for its first two seasons. Gautam Gambhir was retained as the mentor while Justin Langer was signed up as Flower’s replacement as the next head coach.
This will be his second season with the franchise. Morkel who was a part of KKR under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy will now work with him for the second straight season with LSG. There were efforts by KKR to sign up Gambhir as the mentor ahead of IPL 2024 but the move did not materialise.
The LSG Twitter handle confirmed Morkel’s stay with the franchise for the second year running. Under Morkel’s guidance, LSG has found some new talent in the form of Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur, and Avesh Khan. Mark Wood also played for Luckow last season under Morkel’s guidance.
