Former India batsman Robin Uthappa has expressed his desire of joining any IPL franchise as a coach. The World Cup-winning batsman retired from all forms of cricket in September last year.
Before that, he plied his trade for the Indian U-19 team as well as the senior team. He was part of the India U-19 squad for the World Cup in 2004 and made his debut for the senior team in 2006. Robin Uthappa was a key member of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup in 2007.
He, however, did not have a very long career in international cricket. Robin Uthappa could play 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for the Men in Blue. In the domestic circuit and IPL, he tasted good success. Robin Uthappa won several domestic titles with Karnataka and won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and with Chennai Super Kings in 2021.
Robin Uthappa open to coaching IPL teams:
Having played in the IPL from 2008 to 2022, Robin Uthappa has ample experience of the league and he now wants to make use of it as a coach. The former India batsman has said that he would not hesitate in serving as a coach in the IPL if he gets the opportunity.
“It depends, I would certainly love to be involved with the team. If opportunities do come, I’ll certainly consider it. Yeah (coach), I would love to get involved in setting up…Maybe cricket operations, or director of cricket, where I feel like, I know what it takes or give a team the best chance to win the game,” Uthappa told IANS.
“Because I’ve been with different teams and I know how good teams work, can set structures in place which will help achieve them, something I love to do. So those opportunities, come up I’ll certainly consider them,” he added.
